This book is Jamsheed Marker’s recollection, mostly from memory, of his varied diplomatic career in a few of the world’s most significant capitals, and of travels that took him from the frozen wastes of Siberia and the Arctic to the desert sands of the Sahara. He offers documented all his impressions with candour and recalls his friendships not merely with eminent writers, performers and musicians of most nationalities, but also with the normal residents of the countries where he served. Located in a strategic placement, the young nation of Pakistan shortly found itself the concentrate of world attention, specifically following the Soviet invasion of neighbouring Afghanistan. Marker, at that time Pakistan’s ambassador to the united states, was intimately involved with forging a joint technique in one of the fantastic geo-political battles of the 1980s-the work to expel the Soviet army from Afghanistan. He paints a vivid picture of the hectic behind the moments attempts which culminated in the Geneva Accord in 1988 and subsequent withdrawal of Soviet forces. This not merely offers a link and constant thread to the narrative but also includes the author’s impressions of the Pakistani leaders under whom he offered.

Jamsheed Marker provides juxtaposed occasions in Pakistan concurrently with each of his ambassadorial assignments.

Marker offers met and known most of the world’s leaders, and offers been witness for some significant occasions of the next half of the twentieth hundred years.

Calm Diplomacy is a very important account of the artwork of diplomacy, as practised by a specialist over a long time period.
