Aluminum could be the greatest boatbuilding materials: it’s economical, light-weight, maintenance-free of charge, nearly impervious to corrosion, less easily damaged, and easier repaired than any other materials used for building boats. Only too little information has kept lightweight aluminum from getting the backyard boatbuilder’s material of preference. It could be cut and caused conventional woodworking equipment, and, using the author’s special techniques, could be welded with easily available equipment using regular household current. More complex aluminum-forming methods and large-yacht structure are covered at length, using specific illustrations, to enable visitors to build metal boats of any size. In Boatbuilding with Metal, readers learn aluminium fabrication, welding, and lofting through the structure of a 20-feet McKenzie River drift boat. And they’ll learn from a grasp of the craft. Stephen Pollard has generated a huge selection of aluminum boats–from huge sea racers to water-plane river boats–and has pioneered most of the techniques found in modern welded light weight aluminum boat manufacturing.
